Mount Pleasant Minis

Let's make art you can hold in your hands happen, specifically 2 minicomics by Emily Partridge!

Just what is going on here?

I'm Emily Partridge, a young illustrator and comic artist living in Vancouver, BC. I've been making art my whole life, making comics for the past few years, and just over a year ago started posting them online under the name Mount Pleasant.
My journal strip started out as an exercise in improving my style and learning new techniques, since I knew I wanted to make comics but didn't have any good ideas for stories or jokes. To my surprise, people liked them. I started trying to be more open about my life in the hopes of helping people going through the same things I was. Now I've finally come up with a non-fiction story that I want to start getting people excited about, and along with the journal strips, I want to start getting stuff in print.

I've been able to attend a few conventions (TCAF and ECCC) and it's been amazing. I've met wonderful people and become way more inspired but have never been able to bring my own material to share. I want to give the people what they've been asking for, both at cons and online, and so this indiegogo project was born.

The Minicomics

My plan is to print two 20-page minis. One will be the Mount Pleasant journal strips that people are familiar with, and the other will be the Barking Dog Primer.
Barking Dog is going to be my fiction project about coyotes living on the seawall in Vancouver, comprising of 5 or 6 short volumes. The Primer won't be the first "official" comic, but, well, a primer. It'll have sketches, character designs, short stories, and some scrapped content that didn't make the cut into the first volume of Barking Dog.
Both of these minis will be around 50 percent exclusive content. Bits and pieces will be posted online, but there'll be a lot of stuff you won't see anywhere else!

Why?

Since this is a small project and there's no big crazy publishing costs or anything, I'm shooting fairly low. I'm looking to cover the costs of getting both the minis printed (100-200 of each), as well as a run of the new and improved 'Patron Saint of Ugh' prints. These will be sold online, and depending on how this project goes, informally at TCAF and for-real at VanCAF.

But why this?

As people who are familiar with my comics know, I'm not the most mentally sound person. I went to school and I had to leave. I had a job and I had to leave. I've taken a big chunk of time out of my life to get help fixing my brain and now I finally feel capable of re-starting my life. Your contribution not only means you get awesome swag; it means that I can leap headlong into the things I've been putting on hold because of the not-having-any-money problem.

But what if I'm having the not-having-any-money problem?

Trust me, I've been there. Well, I'm there right now! Even if all you can do is share this page it means the world to me. Talk about it, tweet it, tumble it, post it on facebook, I don't care!

If you're not one of us broke people, look over to the right of your screen to see what you can get for your money. There's some pretty neat stuff.

Finally, please notify me if you'll be able to pick up your perks in person (at TCAF or VanCAF), so I save on shipping and YOU get high-fives!
